Turns out I like to laugh

On Wednesday of last week, I had the brilliant idea of driving into work instead of taking the train.  It seems that I need to do that once in a while to remind myself that, despite the hassle, taking the train is much better than sitting in traffic and then having to pay for parking.  However, driving does give me a chance to listen to the radio.  I found myself flipping between NPR on WHYY and Preston & Steve on WMMR.

First of all, I absolutely love Preston & Steve.  Their morning show is fantastic.  I’ve listened to them off and on for the last several years.  But on Wednesday, they had a comedian named Maria Bamford on the show.  She was on the show to promote her appearance at the Helium Comedy Club in Center City Philadelphia.  I thought she was so funny on the show that a bunch of us went to see her last night, and boy was it a great time.  Joe Bublewicz, who performed before Maria, was hysterical.  My favorite part was when he was talking about this girl he dated who was a toll booth operator by day and a go-go dancer by night.  He said sometimes she would get her two jobs confused and ended up doing shows on the turnpike.  My favorite part of Maria’s act was when she sang "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," because this farm had a pterodactyl, for which Maria let out this long, scarily accurate-sounding screech.  Hysterical.  (Trust me on this one.)

So check out both the Helium Comedy Club as well as Maria Bamford unless, of course, you hate being amused.

Birthday

I want to make sure everyone knows that my birthday is exactly one month away, and because we’re in February, it’s a short month!  Remember, folks: you only have 28 shopping days left, so get out there!

What?  Why are you still reading this?  GO!

Uninvite?

Can someone please explain to me why "uninvited" is a word, yet "uninvite" is not?

Gromit!

Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to announce that Eric and I are getting a dog!  We’re getting a miniature schnauzer, to be exact, and we’re going to call him Gromit (as in Wallace & Gromit).  We picked him out yesterday, and will be picking him up in a couple weeks, right after we move.

Isn’t he CUTE?

I am not a Jew

True story:  Eric and I were in Miami last weekend, and we saw Jackie Mason not once, but twice.  Both times happened to be at lunch.  The second time, we were seated right next to his table at Cafeteria on Lincoln Road.  When our food came, Jackie Mason saw the steak on Eric’s salad and concluded, "You must be Jewish.  But your friend — he’s not Jewish.  He looks like a gentile!"

The jig is up.  I’ve been found out.  I am not a Jew.
